Wells High School

Principal Rituparna Raichoudhuri and former principal Ernesto Matias discussed the current state of Wells High School. Topics included academic improvements at the school, the impact of charter schools on public high schools and the potential to add a World Language Academy track to the high school.

Raichoudhuri urged parents to visit the school and to consider it seriously. She would like the school to remain a vital part of the neighborhood and a school of choice.

Planning, Preservation & Development

A demolition permit has been applied for at the Leona’s restaurant building, 1944-46 W. Augusta. Members of the community have come together to fight for preservation of the building with support from Ald. Brian Hopkins. The building is a former Ukrainian dairy, and the exact timing of its operation and construction is being researched. More information is available in Elaine Coorens' recent article.

A listing of local schools is now available on the EVA website, with links to information.

Steve Niketopolous from Ald. Hopkins' office pointed out the recent resurfacing of Winchester Street.
