Police dinner marks station closing

By Anne Shaw

On Sept. 8, local community groups and the 13th District Police Advisory Committee will be hosts to a 13th District Officer Appreciation Celebration. The event from 6:30 to 10 pm in St. Helen’s School hall, 2345 W. Augusta Blvd., will have door and raffle prizes, food and music.

A special video tribute to the 13th District police station and its officers will debut. The Wood Street police station is slated to be demolished in October when the new 12/13th District is finished at 14th Street and Racine Avenue, 4 miles south of the Wood Street station.

All proceeds benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, which assists police officers catastrophically injured or killed in the line of duty. The foundation has given more than $2.5 million to families of these officers. The event is supported by the 13th District Committee, East Village Association, Chicago Grand Neighbors Association, Ukrainian American Democratic Organization, Chicago Democratic Alliance and local businesses. Tickets may be purchased online.

Sponsorship opportunities, including program book ad space, are still available. Tickets prices: $20, $40 for families (2 adults and 2 children under 18), $10 for students under 18, $10 for senior citizens over 65, free for children under 2 and 13th District police officers and their immediate families. $100 for host committee member includes a ticket and program book mention.

Contact 13th District Advisory chair Annette Cabral at (312) 929-7729, or event co-chair Anne Shaw at anneishaw@gmail.com or (773) 549-9500.
